Van Os Medical B.V. was founded in 1971 and has proven to be a reliable company with a clear vision.
By using creative solutions with a consistent policy, we have turned into an international operating company. The structure of the company has been proved to be successful throughout.
Van Os Medical was founded by Mr. Wijnand van Os, still owner and C.E.O. of the company. In the beginning the company operated solely at the local market and the South West part of The Netherlands selling mostly medical products and disposables.
At the request of customers, Van Os Medical started to enter the rehabilitation market by adding wheelchairs and walking aids to its range. Within a couple of years, rehabilitation products became more and more important for the company and leading them to become their best selling items.
Van Os Medical became the exclusive importer in The Netherlands for Poirier France, the French leading manufacturer of manual and power wheelchairs. A dealer network was set up and the company transformed from a local operating business into a national distributor.
The Excel brand name and product concept was introduced. The concept of developing products in-house, producing with O.E.M. manufacturers has been used from the start. The first wheelchairs with the Excel brand name were made for institutes and hospitals.
The Excel 200 was introduced and has proven to be the most successful product to date. With this model, a new line of products was initiated and contributed substantially to the growth of the company.
Van Os Medical started to enter the electric driven mobility market. The Travelux brand name was introduced for mobility scooters to run alongside the range of manual wheelchairs. In November 1995 the company moved to the new location in Sint Philipsland where it would stay for the coming 10 years.
Van Os Medical sets its first steps to export by establishing it’s first sales office in Belgium, Van Os Medical Belgium B.V.B.A.
A milestone to celebrate: the 50000th Excel wheelchair was sold. A continuous process of product development contributes to a wider assortment of products. Export expands to over 5 countries and the company starts to focus more and more on export.
Van Os Medical Taiwan is established. A very important step for the group where the office in Taiwan is responsible for production and subcontracting. Taiwan branch also actively approaches the market and distributes products to its own customers worldwide.
VAN OS MEDICAL FRANCE S.A.R.L. is established, to enter future sales in the French market. The company extends by moving its main activities to the new premises in the city of Steenbergen. The old buildings in Sint Philipsland are converted to an international warehouse with 5200 m2 of ground. The 4100 m2 ground building in Steenbergen has a large showroom where training is organized for dealers and distributors.
A whole new generation of products are introduced, selling in more than 14 countries. A wide range of competitively priced high quality products. An internal reorganisation will contribute to a better efficiency and effective company growth.
